Thitapa started her passion for the sport when she started playing  with his father, who is a golf fodness. She got initiated when she was six years old in her country, Thailand. She moved to the United States in her Freshman year when she committed to Kent State University (Ohio).

Purdue was already an option for her, she didn’t commit to it until Junior year when she transferred. “There were a lot of internal changes in the team and in the program at Kent State. Purdue was contacting me, it is a good school, it has their own golf course, and the program is competitive." She had offers from Virginia Tech, and University of Central Florida. “Purdue is a great academy school. I am getting a good education and sports experience.”

The women’s golf team can train a maximum of 20 hours, established by the NCAA. “Usually we go more, voluntarily because it will help us to perform at the highest level.” The golfer explains that everybody in the team has the same access to the same things. But, she finds differences with the men’s golf team. “Males get more attention and sponsorship than females.  We have one brand and the men's team have two brand sponsorships.” Solving this for Thitapa is easy, “Purdue approaching the brands for finding sponsorship for women too. I don’t think the media make a very big difference in college golf. But they do it in other sports. Men get more media and broadcasting.”
