Larrañaga started playing tennis when she was seven years old, in Tandil tennis club, which is worldwide known for the professional tennis players coming from there. Her parents forced her to pick a sport, Juana chose tennis due to the proximity with her house, but she fell in love with the game and she couldn’t stop. At nine years old she was already competing in tournaments, and by fourteen she was traveling around South America to play in tournaments, and to Hungary representing her country.

She committed to Purdue in February 2021, at the moment she was talking to other universities, Oklahoma State and Bailor. “I decided to come to Purdue because I like the coach and the assistant coach. I felt that they really liked me. Other universities didn’t guarantee a position in their team." Purdue allowed her to hit, and practice more. “I’ll achieve my dream here. They gave me the impression that they were a focused and professional team that you could trust.”

Juana explains that everybody in the team is treated equally. The only difference she finds is the different amount of scholarships compared to the men’s tennis team. “We have 8 full scholarships, while the men have 1 or 2.” In relation to the media, “I don’t feel they address the questions differently. There is one man that takes photos for men and women.”
